Analysis of the Impact of Accessible Digital Technologies on DPOs

Full Title:

Analysis of the Impact of Accessible Digital Technologies on Disabled Peoples Organizations: A Case of the Botswana Federation of the Disabled (BOFOD) in Gaborone, Botswana

Abstract

This research, held between April and June2017, was conducted against the realization that many Disabled Peoples Organizations (DPOs) in Botswana were failing to fully leverage on the benefits that come with accessible Information and Commutation Technologies (ICTs) or digital technologies. For this reason, the terms of reference for this research was therefore to explore the levels to which DPOs in Gaborone, who are members of the Botswana Federation of the Disabled (BOFOD), are utilizing and benefiting from accessible technologies, and the challenges they face in accessing or using these technologies. The main aim was to gain an in-depth understanding and insights of the extent to which the digital technologies, and lack thereof, affect the operations of the DPOs in Botswana, as well as to analyze the factors that lead into the status quo.
